Short Bio

I am working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. I received my Ph.D. in 2015 and MSc in 2011 from the University of Arizona Mining Engineering Department. My minor was Systems and Industrial Engineering during this time. I earned my BSc in Mining Engineering at Istanbul Technical University in 2007.

I have combined over 15 years of experience in industry and academia. I worked as a researcher during my graduate studies in Arizona, taught undergraduate and graduate-level classes, and was the leader of MIRG (Mine Intelligence Research Group) which had more than 20 researchers. In MIRG we developed solutions to industrial problems with an interdisciplinary team of people from computer engineering, MIS, industrial engineering, and mining engineering. The success of our projects in this group and the intensive interest from the industry led us to found MISOM Technologies Inc. in 2011. I was one of the co-founders and VP of Engineering of this company until I returned back to Turkey in 2016. MISOM was acquired by MST Technologies in 2017. During this period, we have developed solutions to improve operational productivity and developed innovative technologies and solutions for the largest gold, copper, silver, and coal mining firms in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

My work focuses on data-driven decision making, operational intelligence, control centers, BigData in mining, bottleneck management, real-time simulation, performance management, business intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), data mining, optimization, and mine economics.
